Prof. Joris Knoben has been appointed Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship effective June 1, 2022. This was announced today by the Executive Board. Knoben will work at the Tilburg School of Economics and Management. His research focuses on the relationship between the environment of (new) companies and their strategy and success.

In many places in the world, including the Netherlands, there are clear concentrations of entrepreneurship and innovation. Why do companies clump together like that? What can they do in those places that they cannot do elsewhere? How does all this affect the performance of these companies? Knoben focuses on answering questions like these. He not only looks at the physical environment of companies (where they are located) but also at the relational (with whom they cooperate), the institutional (what are the (in)formal rules) and the social environment (the degree of social cohesion).

New master entrepreneurship

Knoben will lecture in both the undergraduate (in the Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation program) and the graduate (in the Strategic Management: Entrepreneurship program). He will also contribute to the development of new master's programs in the field of entrepreneurship. Knoben has a lot of experience in setting up and providing interdisciplinary education.

Knoben: "I consider it a great honor to return to the faculty where I studied. The Management Department I will be part of is a leader in the field of research and education. I see it as a privilege to work with the many talented colleagues in this department to further strengthen this reputation in the years to come.'

Joris Knoben (1981) studied Economics at Tilburg University. He did his PhD research at the Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (2007). After working for two years as a policy researcher at the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, he returned to Tilburg University in 2010. In 2013 he made the move to Radboud University where he was Professor of Business Economics since 2015. Since 2010, Knoben has also been a frequent lecturer at Tias for various courses in the field of research methods and statistics.

Knoben has been awarded several grants including a NWO VENI grant. His research has been published in many leading journals such as the "Academy of Management Journal", "Organization Science", "Journal of Management" and "Research Policy". He also works with various social partners, such as the Chambers of Commerce, for both conducting research and realizing social impact of his research.
