Professor Marike Knoef new Dean of Tilburg School of Economics and Management

The Tilburg University Executive Board has appointed Professor Marike Knoef as Dean of the Tilburg School of Economics and Management. She will take office on February 1, 2023, and succeeds interim-Dean Professor Lex Meijdam. At the moment, Knoef is working as a Professor of Empirical Micro-Economics at Leiden University. She is also the General Director of Netspar, Network for Studies on Pensions, Aging and Retirement, and a deputy Crown-appointed member of the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands (SER).

The Executive Board is very pleased with this appointment. Marike Knoef (1983) has been a Professor of Empirical Micro-Economics at Leiden University since 2018. Marike studied Econometric Methods & Mathematical Economics (cum laude, 2006) in Tilburg and gained a PhD here in 2011 with a thesis entitled Essays on Labor Force Participation, Aging, Income and Health. In 2017, Marike Knoef joined the board of directors of Netspar, Network for Studies on Pensions, Aging and Retirement, and has been its General Director since September 2020. She was, among other things, the driving force behind the 2019-2023 Netspar Next research agenda and played an important role in strengthening the funding of Netspar after 2023. Since July 2021, Marike has been endowed Professor of Capital-Funded Pensions at Tilburg University. Through this Chair, sponsored by Instituut Gak, she contributes to the future of pensions in the Netherlands, by providing more insight in the economic behavior of individuals and households. Marike is also a deputy Crown-appointed member of the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands (SER).
