On the occasion of the Remembrance of the Dead, Henk Witte, acting Dean of the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology, laid flowers on behalf of the Tilburg University Executive Board at the war memorial commemorating the twenty-two Tilburg students who lost their lives during the Second World War. They died following bombings, because of their resistance activities, in concentration camps, or as a result of forced labor and illness. The memorial, consisting of a memorial wall with photos and candles, is located in Cobbenhagen Building.

Dodenherdenking 2022

Henk Witte: “Today, on May 4, we commemorate all those who have fallen for our freedom and autonomy. We pay tribute in particular to the students of our university who lost their lives during the Second World War. We honor the courage they showed in standing up against great injustice and we remember those who fell victim to injustice and random acts of cruelty and violence. In the light of the war in Ukraine, it is all the more important to reflect on the atrocities committed in wartime that must never take place but regretfully are all too real. Let us hope and pray that the parties to the conflict are willing to seriously commit to establishing a lasting peace.”
