Research into the consequences of the corona crisis for nursing home residents

Tranzo’s Care for Older Adults Academic Collaborative Center (ACC) will conduct research together with UNO-UMCG (collaboration of the University Network on Care for the Elderly and the Groningen University Medical Center) and KU Leuven into the experiences of nursing home residents, their relatives, and volunteers in the corona era. In this qualitative study, the loneliness and social needs experienced by the respondents as a result of the measures, but also their resilience, will be investigated.

Project manager Leonieke van Boekel explains: "So far, little attention has been paid in research and policy to the perspective of older people in nursing homes. With this study, we are also addressing ethical dilemmas that play a role. With the results, we can make policy recommendations. We want to limit the impact of a possible second wave for residents, relatives, and volunteers in nursing homes.”

The study is subsidized by ZonMW (Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development) within the COVID-19 program. There is currently a vacancy for a researcher:
