The Shanghai Ranking is generally seen as one of the most influential rankings based on Research output. Universities are evaluated on the number of publications in high-impact journals, citation impact, international collaboration, and publications in TOP journals. The methodology of the 2020 ranking is different from the previous editions. Before, the total number of publications in journals indexed in the Web of Science was included. This year this metric has been replaced by publications in Q1 journals only. This means that only publications in the top 25% of journals – based on Journal Impact Factor – are considered.
