The Persian theologian Abu Hamid al-Ghazali († 1111), much loved by Muslims and much maligned in the West, wants to make us think about how we distinguish truth from falsehood and is thus more topical than ever. Theologian and philosopher Cornelis van Lit, together with Gerko Tempelman, translated his autobiography and wrote an extensive explanation. An interview with Van Lit, who works at the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology (TST). (In Dutch)

According to Van Lit, the erudite Ghazali who thoroughly studied the Greeks belongs in Western philosophy and fits into the tradition of Aristotle, Kant and Hume. Intriguing moreover, is the figure of Ghazali, who escaped fame, wealth and work stress by going into asceticism for 10 years.
