Tilburg University’s ambitions for growth require extension of campus facilities
In its strategic plan, Tilburg University set out its ambitions to become a medium-sized university. Increasingly more students choose to study here. It is expected that the number of new students at our university will grow further. The prognosis suggests growth until 2025, after which student numbers are expected to stabilize. To accommodate these growing numbers of students, more lecture halls are required and other campus facilities need to be adapted as well.
The Real Estate Management Office translated these ambitions into a strategic Real Estate Vision for the campus. This document was adopted by the University Council in 2018. This Vision includes, among other things, the realization of a new education facility on the north-eastern side of the campus. The first large new build was CUBE. At the moment, preparations are underway for further expansion. The second new education building will be constructed on the site of the current parking lot next to Tias building. Construction will start in 2021.
A parking building will also be realized to accommodate the expected increase in the need for parking space and to compensate the loss of the parking lot next to Tias building.
In anticipation of the expected growth, the Real Estate Vision also plans for the possible realization of a third, fourth, and fifth new education facility to accommodate growing numbers of students.
Reducing the CO2 footprint
At the same time, mobility measures will be introduced to reduce car use and to increase the use of more sustainable forms of transportation for commuter traffic. In this way, we want to reduce our CO2 footprint and decrease the need for parking in the longer term.
