War in Ukraine: expression of support
Dear colleagues and students,
War, wherever in the world it rages, is the failure of everything we stand for: respect for human dignity as the basis for peaceful coexistence, and rejecting and renouncing acts of intimidation and violence as a means to end conflict. That we now see a war erupting, so close to home, has shocked and touched us deeply. We are in contact with our partner university, the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, expressing our solidarity and offering encouragement. Scholars from Russia have issued a statement this morning, calling for an immediate stop to the unlawful violence. As an academic community, we naturally, unequivocally and wholeheartedly endorse this call.
We condemn this war, and we ardently hope this mindless act of violence will stop soon because it can only lead to loss of life. Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, especially with the families and friends of our colleagues and students in the war zone.
If you are worried, or want to talk to someone, colleagues can always turn to their supervisor. For students, several resources are available for help, advice, or counseling.
