Winners of the New Common Essay contest were announced at a hybrid final meeting. With this essay contest, Tilburg University has taken another step in taking stock of thoughts about the world with and after corona. The corona crisis affects society in areas as diverse as: health, security, the environment, education, the labor market and digitalization. Members from Generation Z have been given the opportunity to share their perspectives and ideas. The best essays will be featured in the collection Shaping New Commons.

The New Common 2

Shaping New Commons will consist of a collection of ten essays selected from over thirty student submissions. Participation was also open to students from other universities. Participants were allowed to work in teams of up to three people and submit 3.000 words. The essays had to meet academic criteria and offer solutions to contemporary problems and concrete recommendations for the organization of society and what roles and tasks this involves for the various sectors such as government, science and business. The collection will be available in the fall.

"Covid triggers a dialogue in the transformation of society. It reveals underlying problems in society. In what ways do these transformations give direction to society and how do we deal with them?" - Ronald de Jong.

This new collection is the successor to a previously published work authored by former Rector Magnificus Emile Aarts and Professor of Practice Ronald de Jong. More than 50 scientists from various scientific disciplines collaborated on this work.
