Researcher Mara Păun wins Johannes Cornelis Ruigrok Prize
08th April 2024The Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW) has awarded the J.C. Ruigrok Prize to researcher Mara Păun (TLS). She will receive the prize on June 14 for her PhD thesis on the interaction between legal and technological developments.

Three Tilburg University Professors Crown-Appointed Members of the SER
28th March 2024The Dutch Cabinet has appointed Irmgard Borghouts (TSB), Bastiaan Starink (TLS), and Mijntje Lückerath-Rovers (TIAS) as new members of the Social and Economic Council (SER). They will advise the government on the domains of entrepreneurship, decent work, sustainable growth, an inclusive society, a fair distribution of income, and broad prosperity. The new members have been appointed for the period of April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026.

Saving sign language for the future by AI and machine learning
28th March 2024More than three hundred sign languages have been registered in the world. But despite the advances in Artificial Intelligence and language technology, only a small number of them have been supported by AI tools and language technology. In order to improve this, linguistics expert Mirella De Sisto, artificial intelligence specialist Dimitar Shterionov, and PhD student Lisa Lepp have been working on automatic recognition and translation of sign language through machine learning and computational linguistics approaches in the SignON project.
