PRESS RELEASE 25 October 2017 - On October 1st, Professor S.A. (Stan) Stevens and Professor A.J.A. (Ton) Stevens were appointed as Professors of Corporate Income Tax at the Tilburg School of Economics and Management. Together they are succeeding Professor Jan van der Geld, who retired at the end of 2016.

Their chair focuses on teaching and on conducting research in the field of corporate income tax, both nationally and internationally.

In the last few decades, corporate income taxation has been the focus of much public attention and debate. On the one hand, there are important initiatives taken by OESO and the EU to tackle base erosion by multinational corporations (the so-called BEPS-project); on the other, many states are trying to secure or improve their attractive business climate. The professors will use their chair to propose sustainable solutions to problems surrounding taxation of national and international companies.

Ton Stevens graduated in fiscal law from Tilburg University (still called KUB at the time) in 1990. In 2002, he received his doctorate from the same university. The subject and title of his doctoral thesis was ‘Fiscale aspecten van de commanditaire vennootschap; een knelpuntenoplossing vanuit rechtsvergelijkend perspectief’ [Fiscal aspects of limited partnerships; a problem-based solution from the perspective of comparative law]. From 2005 through 2017, he was Professor of International Tax Law at the Erasmus School of Law of Erasmus University Rotterdam. He has authored many national and international publications on a wide range of subjects, with a clear focus on corporate income taxation, and he is a frequent speaker, both at home and abroad, at seminars and conferences, and in guest lectures. He has been affiliated to Loyens & Loeff since 1989, where he has been working as of counsel/ tax adviser since January 2016.

Stan Stevens studied fiscal economics at Tilburg University (1996) and received his doctorate from this university in 2003. His thesis was an investigation of the taxation of government organizations, “De belaste overheid” [Taxed government organizations]. Since 2010 he has been Endowed Professor of “Fiscale aspecten van maatschappelijke ondernemingen“ (Fiscal aspects of social enterprises) at Tias / Tilburg University. His research focuses on the fiscal aspects of various types of enterprises (family businesses, social enterprises, and multinationals) and on the owners of such enterprises. He has authored many national and international publications and is a regular speaker at symposiums and conferences. Stan is also affiliated to HVK Stevens as a tax adviser, and he is a member of the board of the Dutch Association of Tax Advisers (Nederlandse Orde van Belastingadviseurs) and chairman within that organization of the tax adviser training foundation (Stichting Opleiding Belastingadviseurs).
