War in Ukraine: Tilburg University scholars explain the consequences
07th March 2022The war in Ukraine has overwhelmed and shocked its inhabitants and the world. Peace in Europe is no longer a matter of course. Our scholars contribute to explaining the backgrounds and consequences from, for example, the perspective of European values, the consequences of economic sanctions, quiet diplomacy by the church and the impact on international trade.

Local humanitarian aid collection point at the Reitse Toren
02nd March 2022Several Tilburg University students have taken the initiative to start a local humanitarian aid collection point at the Reitse Toren, RT Building (Cobbenhagenlaan 109, 5037 DB Tilburg) to help the Ukrainian people in need with some basic essentials, such as first aid kits, medicines, flashlights, batteries etc.

EU funds research project BOLSTER to improve understanding of marginalized communities in the climate transition
02nd March 2022There is a mismatch between the understanding of marginalized communities, participatory governance and policy plans to achieve a just climate transition. This can lead to social and political opposition. The BOLSTER project, led by Tilburg Law School, aims to understand how marginalized communities are affected.

Benink: The Netherlands must bring the European narrative back into politics
28th February 2022Professor of Banking and Finance Harald Benink is very involved in the social debate and explains how he tries to contribute to it as a scientist as well as to impact in general. Benink is a regular guest speaker in public hearings in the Dutch Parliament, recently on the future of European fiscal policy.

28th February 2022War, wherever in the world it rages, is the failure of everything we stand for: respect for human dignity as the basis for peaceful coexistence, and rejecting and renouncing acts of intimidation and violence as a means to end conflict. That we now see a war erupting, so close to home, has shocked and touched us deeply.

Rector Tilburg University shares cris de coeur with Tilburg politicians
24th February 2022Opening Student Election Debate night on Wednesday, Rector Magnificus Wim van de Donk seized the opportunity to share three cries from the heart with the political parties attending the event. By launching its appeal, the Executive Board hopes to inspire Tilburg politicians to give these issues their proper due in the coming years.

Contact with peers helps victims to reinvent themselves

With support from the Dutch Victim Support Network (Slachtofferhulp Nederland), Pien van de Ven therefore investigated the role of both support from the social environment and from fellow-sufferers in dealing with a victim experience.

City and university sign declaration of intent on E. du Perron Award
15th February 2022On February 15, mayor Theo Weterings and Vice-President of the Tilburg University Executive Board Paulina Snijders will sign a declaration of intent on collaboration with respect to the E. du Perron Award. The City and the university will work together on changing the format of the presentation of this literary prize. More prize money will be made available and young people will be an important target group as regards both the events program and the presentation. This new ambition involving the E. du Perron Award is part of broader collaboration between Tilburg University and the City in the field of culture.
