Festive opening photo exhibition The Mix Netherlands ‘Earth'
05th September 2023The photo exhibition The Mix Netherlands ‘Earth' was festively opened on September 1. You are invited to admire the work of photographers Wiesje Peels and Martien Coppens shown in this exhibition. The works of art can be found on the Esplanade, in Cobbenhagen building and in front of the train station in the city center until October 31.

In a time when science is expected to be practically applicable and societally usable, the departing professor reminds us of the intrinsic importance of his beloved field of mathematics. Mathematics, the science of eternal truths, is too profound and all-encompassing to be reduced to a practical application.

Dr. Phillip Paiement appointed Professor of Law and Governance in the Anthropocene
30th August 2023Tilburg University has appointed dr. Phillip Paiement of Tilburg Law School to Professor of Law and Governance in the Anthropocene, effective September 1st, 2023. Phillip Paiement’s research is devoted to transnational strategic litigation in climate change, biodiversity conservation, large-scale land transfers and pollution from extractives industries.

One in four organizations screens applicant's social media
29th August 2023Many organizations appear to look for discrimination-sensitive personal characteristics in the resume during the recruitment and selection process. Over 25% also check social media profiles of candidates. When the Equal Opportunities in Recruitment and Selection Act comes into effect, many organizations will have to review their recruitment policies.

Team collaboration in a game of Tetris: A Lowlands science experiment
23rd August 2023Researchers from TSB (the Departments of Human Resource Studies and Medical & Clinical Psychology) conducted research this past weekend at a sweltering hot Lowlands Science site on how effectively people work together in a team. They asked visitors of the Lowlands music festival to play a game of Tetris under different conditions. A unique opportunity to do research in a very dynamic environment.

Inaugural address Jolanda Mathijssen: Youth care needs systems thinking
23rd August 2023The care and upbringing of children is primarily the responsibility of parents. However, more and more parents are experiencing parenting stress as well as other concerns. This puts great pressure on families. To relieve the pressure, the government also has a role in providing a good system of youth care. "Care for youth cannot exist without care for parents and family," believes Professor of Care for Youth Jolanda Mathijssen.

Digitalization and its ramifications require more academic knowledge

New and improved version of Library Access
16th August 2023The (Lean) Library Access browser extension has been updated. Not only is the appearance different from the old version, the functionality has also been improved. You can personalize the settings of the extension much better to match own wishes. In addition, it is now easy to temporarily disable the extension, for example during weekends or holidays.
