Tilburg University’s reaction to the Parliamentary debate on Internationalization
21st June 2023Dutch MPS are greatly worried about the fast growing numbers of international students studying in the Netherlands and the impact on, among other things, the availability of student accommodation and on Dutch as an academic language. Tilburg University wants to emphasize that our international community is a valued and integral part of our community. We agree that it is a good thing to encourage informed decisions on the use of English as a language of instruction. We call on everybody who is worried to share these concerns with their supervisors.

Outgoing professor Van Damme: Economics serves people
20th June 2023In economics, people are the focus, not economics, Eric van Damme argued in his farewell address on June 22. However, this message, which really should be obvious, is often forgotten in economic reporting, such as when it is stated that people should do things because it is good for the economy. Van Damme argues that this is because such reporting emphasizes macroeconomic aspects in which the human being behind the numbers is hidden, leading to a distorted picture.

The separation between mental health and psychological aspects and physical health and functional aspects is very persistent in medicine, obviously also in orthopaedics. New program TILT and TIAS for professionals: Cyber Security & Governance

Paulina Snijders talks about Untangling and Unburdening: ‘We want to see a shift from control to trust’
19th June 2023With its Untangling and Unburdening program, Tilburg University is waging war against unnecessary rules and procedures. Changing the behavior that is causing the bureaucracy will still prove difficult and take time, believes Paulina Snijders, but it must be possible. “If we’re successful in making significant progress this year, things can begin to accelerate. It will initiate a flywheel effect.”

Layered form of regulation can improve digital markets
12th June 2023When do monopolies of digital platforms like those of Google, Meta and Amazon become too strong, and how do you give new entrants to the market a chance? Jasper van den Boom of the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology and Society (TILT) developed a new, layered form of regulation to better regulate digital markets. He will defend his doctoral dissertation on June 14, 2023 at Tilburg University.
