Mobile phones and mobile money play major role in fighting human trafficking
PRESS RELEASE 9 November 2015 - To fight human trafficking, EU and African crime prevention agencies should work together with mobile telephone operators to counter the use of mobile devices for smuggling, trafficking and illegal financial transactions. This recommendation for the EU-Africa Valletta Conference on Migration on the 11th and 12th of November in Malta, is drawn up in a report by Professor of International Relations, Innovation and Care, Mirjam van Reisen (Tilburg University) and Professor Tim Unwin (Unesco Chair in ICTs for Development), together with senior UN officials and human rights, trafficking and ICT experts.
Keuzegids Universities 2016: Nine Tilburg University Bachelors rank #1
PRESS RELEASE November 2nd, 2015 - Nine Tilburg University Bachelor’s programs have been ranked as the best in their field. This was shown by the rankings in the Keuzegids Universities 2016, published on Monday, in which the quality of the Dutch academic Bachelor’s programs is compared and assessed. The Keuzegids rankings are largely based on student ratings as part of the National Student Survey (NSE). Among the fourteen Dutch research universities, Tilburg University now occupied the fourth position in the ranking of the best Bachelor’s programs. In 2015, we were sixth and in 2014 in ninth position.
Unique collaboration with MIT on gameplay behavior

Fight the root causes of human exodus of Africa, trafficking and ICT experts urge EU
PRESS RELEASE October 7th, 2015 - An Afripol police and African anti-trafficking office should be established which focuses on fighting criminal groups and human trafficking. Working closely with Europol, these could strengthen the African security situation, protect refugees and help combat the root cause of the current exodus to Europe.
In addition, more research is needed into how ICT and telecommunications can facilitate human trafficking in planning routes, communication and (ransom) transactions. These are two recommendations for the EU-Africa Valletta Conference on migration 11-12 November in Malta, drawn up by Tilburg University (Netherlands) experts, Mirjam van Reisen, Conny Rijken and Gerard van Oortmerssen together with senior UN officials, human rights, trafficking and ICT experts.

Tilburg University rises in THE World University Rankings

Tilburg University has achieved a good result in the 2015 Times Higher Education Rankings (THE). The final score is between 201st and 250th position (which is not further specified). This means a rise relative to 2014 (276th-300th position). The THE World University Rankings is one of the most prestigious international university rankings. The ranking is based on performance indicators in five categories: teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.
Tilburg University again best specialist university according to professors

As in previous years, Tilburg University is the best Dutch specialist university in the Elsevier Ranking, according to professors. Students rank the university second on the list of specialist universities, after Wageningen. If the total scores of all universities are compared, Tilburg University is in fifth position. Every year, Elsevier compares a large number of degree programs in Dutch higher education (research universities and universities of applied sciences).
Ten top programs at Tilburg University
Press release, September 24th 2015-Tilburg University has achieved a remarkable result in the 2015 Elsevier ranking. Students have rated no less than six Bachelor’s and four Master’s programs at Tilburg University as the best of their kind. This was shown by the results of Elsevier Beste Studies 2015, in which Elsevier weekly magazine compares a large number of degree programs in Dutch higher education. The student assessments are based on the National Student Survey (NSE).
Tilburg University climbs 74 places in QS World University Ranking
PRESS RELEASE Sept. 17th 2015 - In the latest QS Ranking of the quality of universities worldwide Tilburg University has made a huge leap, climbing 74 places from 367th to 293rd on the list. The annual ranking focuses on six key indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, student-to-faculty ratio, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
