Three students on internship at National Corona Team
08th May 2020Bram Verhoeven, Nikki van Emmerloot, and Frederik Venneman, three Information Management Master’s students, were already well on their way with their graduation research projects on crisis management, guided by their thesis supervisor Dr. Kenny Meesters, when the corona crisis erupted. As a crisis expert, Kenny Meesters had been appointed to the national operational team on corona (LOT-C) in Zeist. This proved to be a blessing in disguise for the three students: as a result, they were allowed to work for the team as well, a rare opportunity to obtain a wealth of information and experience for their graduation research. All three students have been keeping a diary for a week about their work at LOT-C.

€ 3 Million for ETZ research into better treatment brain tumors
01st May 2020What brain tumor treatment is the best choice if you do not only take the medical perspective into account but also the way in which patients can resume their lives afterwards? The Neurosurgery Department of the ETZ hospital in Tilburg has received a € 3 million grant for research on this question. There will be intensive collaboration with Tilburg University and Eindhoven University of Technology as part of this project.

Koen Becking new Rector and Chairman of the Executive Board of Nyenrode Business University
29th April 2020Prof. dr. Koen Becking (1969) will become the new Rector Magnificus and Chairman of the Executive Board of Nyenrode Business University on 1st October 2020. In doing so he takes over from Prof. dr. Miša Džoljić, who has held this position since 1 November 2012. Becking will also be joining the faculty of Nyenrode as a Professor.

Barbara Deleersnyder as Professor of Marketing at the Marketing Department in the Tilburg School of Economics and Management (TiSEM), effective May 1, 2020. Her research is dedicated to support marketing managers to pursue strategies that benefit the firm, its customers, and society at large.

Tilburg University ranks #9 worldwide on Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
23rd April 2020In the recently published Times Higher Education Impact rankings 2020, Tilburg University is ranked 9th worldwide on Sustainable Development Goal 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. This ranking is based on the university’s research on law and international relations (27%), participation as advisers for government (23.2%), university governance measures (26.6%), and graduates in law and civil enforcement courses (23.2%).

Unique Livestream: Digital PhD Defense Chris Hartgerink
17th April 2020Today Chris Hartgerink will receive his PhD with the first full digital promotion, at least at Tilburg University. Chris works at the Department of Methodology and Statistics at the Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (TSB). His defense will be livestreamed today 1.30 p.m. on YouTube: tiu.nu/livephddefense.

Ten Tilburg University researchers receive NWO grant for research into corona crisis issues
16th April 2020The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) developed the call ‘Corona: fast-track data’ to collect data that can only be conducted now, during the COVID-19 crisis, and specifically research into issues that arise in society during the crisis. As many as ten scientists from Tilburg University have been granted within this call.

Culpable negligence in writing PhD-thesis
26th March 2020The Executive Board has adopted the advice of the external Scientific Integrity Committee (CWI) headed by the University of Utrecht professor Dr. Ton Hol that was set up to examine the content and the preparation process of the PhD thesis of Dr. Jonathan Malagón González. The thesis entitled Four essays on central banking in Latin America under balance of payments dominance, was defended by Dr. J. Malagón González on December 1, 2017.
