PRESS RELEASE JUNE 26, 2017 - Tilburg University has introduced a new position, namely, that of ‘Professor of Practice’. The Professor of Practice is an innovative business leader or entrepreneur working in an internationally oriented company. In this way, Tilburg University wants to reinforce its impact on society and strengthen its ties with practice. The first Professor of Practice has now been appointed at the School of Economics and Management (TiSEM): Ronald de Jong, Chief Human Resources Officer and member of the Executive Committee at Philips.
Archibald van Wieringen appointed Professor of Old Testament07th June 2017

PRESSRELEASE 2 juni 2017 - The Executive Board has appointed Professor Jantine Schuit as Dean of the Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (TSB), starting on September 1. She is succeeding Professor Klaas Sijtsma in this capacity. Schuit is head of the Food, Prevention and Care Center (Centrum Voeding, Preventie en Zorg) of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). In addition, she is affiliated to the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam as an endowed professor of Health Promotion and Policy.

Two Tilburg University researchers receive prestigious Vidi grant NWO30th May 2017
PRESS RELEASE 30 May, 2017 - Loes Keijsers and Joris Mulder, both researcher at the Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, have been awarded a Vidi grant of 800.000 euros by NWO, the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research. The grant enables them to develop their own innovative line of research and set up their own research group for five years. Their research topics are opvoed-adviezen and dynamic social networks respectively.

Climate researchers should give more consideration to ways in which they can make the message about climate change clear to the public at large. This is argued by Professor of Communication and Cognition Fons Maes in a publication in Nature. Although enormous amounts of visual and digital information on climate change is available, hardly any attention is given to reaching one large and vulnerable target group: people with low levels of literacy.

Mathematical models improve the quality and efficacy of radiotherapy30th March 2017

Radiotherapy, in which radioactive radiation is used to damage cancer cells, is a common cancer treatment. However, the people applying the treatment are only human and there are other uncertainties involved in it. On March 31st, Marleen Balvert will be defending her PhD thesis in which she shows that these risk scan be reduced using mathematical optimization models.

Vici grant for Jenny Slatman: Mind the Body in Health Care17th February 2017
PRESS RELEASE 17 February 2017 - Professor of Medical Humanities Jenny Slatman is to receive an NWO grant worth € 1.5 million that will allow her to do further research on the meaning of the body in health care. Because the body is mainly perceived as a biological entity in health care, various embodied dimensions of health problems go off the radar. As a result, somatic problems are often given psychological explanations and mental problems are increasingly seen as brain deficiencies. Slatman wants to develop a broader view of embodiment.
