Ten Tilburg University researchers receive NWO grant for research into corona crisis issues
16th April 2020The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) developed the call ‘Corona: fast-track data’ to collect data that can only be conducted now, during the COVID-19 crisis, and specifically research into issues that arise in society during the crisis. As many as ten scientists from Tilburg University have been granted within this call.

Media shows bias when covering corporate misconduct
02nd April 2020News media do not report corporate misconduct – such as environmental offences, corruption, or the violation of social standards – consistently and independently. Instead, the media are often influenced by their own interests, such as advertising revenues. That is the result of a new study by Dr. Samuel Stäbler, Assistant Professor of Marketing at Tilburg University (Netherlands), and Dr. Marc Fischer, Professor of Marketing at the University of Cologne (Germany).

How well can we predict life trajectories?
30th March 2020With enough data, computer power and skilled data scientists, one would think that predicting life trajectories in a well-defined context, for example predicting the GPA of children, should not be too difficult. A recent study, authored by a large, international team of researchers in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, comes to a sobering conclusion.

Culpable negligence in writing PhD-thesis
26th March 2020The Executive Board has adopted the advice of the external Scientific Integrity Committee (CWI) headed by the University of Utrecht professor Dr. Ton Hol that was set up to examine the content and the preparation process of the PhD thesis of Dr. Jonathan Malagón González. The thesis entitled Four essays on central banking in Latin America under balance of payments dominance, was defended by Dr. J. Malagón González on December 1, 2017.

Ellen Deckwitz, Stephan Enter and Asha Karami nominated for E. du Perron award 2019
12th March 2020Writers Ellen Deckwitz, Stephan Enter and Asha Karami have been nominated for the E. du Perron Award 2019. The prize is awarded to writers, artists or institutions that contribute to an inclusive society through cultural expression in a broad sense. The award ceremony will take place on Thursday evening, April 16 in the LocHal in Tilburg. Then Maxim Februari will hold the ninth E. du Perron Lecture entitled 'E. du Perron en de pseudo-identiteiten’ ('E. du Perron and the pseudo-identities').

Research project "Optimization for and with Machine Learning" receives ENW-Groot grant
12th March 2020A major research project applied for by Prof. Dr. Dick den Hertog, Prof. Dr. Etienne de Klerk, and Prof. Dr. Monique Laurent, has been awarded an ENW-Groot grant from the NWO Domain Science (Exacte en Natuurwetenschappen, ENW). These grants, totaling over EUR 47 million, are intended for consortia in which research groups collaborate in curiosity-driven, independent fundamental research.

Exhibition film-maker and photographer Godfrey van den Heuvel
12th March 2020On March 10, 2019, the Tilburg artist and teacher Godfrey van den Heuvel (1945) died. Part of his artistic legay has been made available to Tilburg University and will be on temporary display in the foyer of Cobbenhagen Building.

Third prize for Tilburg University students in Milgard School of Business Case Competition
09th March 2020Four TiSEM students won the third prize in the 9th Milgard School of Business Case Competition on Leadership & Social Responsibility in Tacoma (Seattle, USA) on Friday, February 28. In this business case competition, teams from various universities joined battle on a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) case. In total, 19 teams participate, from universities world-wide. Tilburg University was the only European participant.

Marie Curie Individual Fellowship awarded to Anna Berti Suman to conduct research into citizen sensing for environmental justice
09th March 2020PhD candidate Anna Berti Suman of Tilburg Law School has been awarded a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship. Her research proposal, which got the highest evaluation possible, is entitled ‘SENSJUS- Citizen Sensing as a source of evidence in environmental justice litigation and as a tool for environmental mediation’.
