International Baccalaureate

Diploma requirement

  • International Baccalaureate diploma
    Tilburg University only accepts the full International Baccalaureate Diploma, which includes the core (Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and CAS) and subjects taken from groups 1-5 or groups 1-6 - of which at least three subjects must be at Higher Level. The overall score must be ≥ 24. Individual diploma program course results are not accepted for admission purposes.

Diploma requirement

  • At least 3 GCE accepted A-levels in general academic subjects (see below) with grades A*-C, plus 3 GCSE academic subjects with grades A*-C or 4-9 (six different subjects in total).

    Accepted A-levels: Biology, Chemistry, Classical Civilisation, Economics, English (a combination of Language and Literature will be considered as one A-level subject), Geography, Government and Politics, Further Mathematics, History, Languages (not your native tongue other than English), Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology, Religion and Sociology.

    Two of the above accepted A-level subjects plus another subject not listed, such as Business studies may also be considered. These applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis and depend on the appropriacy of the subject, grade achieved (minimum score B for all 3 subjects) and the selected Bachelor program.

Cannot find your country or mathematics course?

If you cannot find your diploma or mathematics requirements in the tables above, please do not worry. These tables are not exhaustive.

  • We advise you to apply for admission to the Bachelor’s program of your interest. This is the best way to check if you meet the mathematics requirements. Tilburg University does not charge an application fee, and an application can easily be submitted online. Our International Admissions Coordinator can advise you about your options to meet the mathematics requirements if this is not the case yet.
  • The International Admissions Coordinator might advise you take an additional mathematics exam. Training and exams can be taken - for example - at the Boswell-Beta Institute in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Students with an International diploma living abroad might take the Online Mathematics Placement Test (OMPT). We accept the following OMPT exams* with a minimum score of 70%:

    *Please note that you may make at most two attempts to reach the minimum passing grade.

  • Our programs in the field of Social and Behavioral Sciences also offer a mathematics course in the first months of the program. In general, you will be exempt from this mathematics course if: you have taken mathematics as an examination subject in your final year of high school, and you received a passing grade, and your high school diploma is equivalent to the Dutch VWO diploma.

    ​After having received your documents for unconditional admission (your diploma and list of grades), you will be informed whether you will have to follow (and pass) this course or if you can be exempted.  This mathematics course is offered in the following Bachelor’s programs:
