At Tilburg University, you can further develop your skills through a range of extracurricular activities and opportunities outside the classroom.

Culture and sports

Symposia and debates

Throughout the year, Studium Generale organizes symposia, debates, and small-scale exchanges focusing on scientific, social and ideological issues.

Cultural associations and places

There are a number of cultural associations and places dedicated to theater, drama, and musical foundation. Furthermore, Tilburg University also provides spaces for performances and rehearsals, and also has a music room with a piano which can be freely used.

Sports

Students have ranked Tilburg University's Sports Center as the best sports center in the Netherlands. It offers a broad program of activities and facilities for both recreational users and those who wish to play sports at a competitive level. You can work out at any time from early morning to late evening. Sports Center membership is offered at a price appropriate to a student budget.

By paying a small fee, you will have access to a wide range of sport activities such as aerobics and dance, boxing and martial arts, ball sports, and water, snow and ice sports. You can also join a sports association and participate in competitions.

We also have facilities for students who play sports at a professional or semi-professional level.

Courses and workshops

You are allowed to follow extra courses next to your studies, including courses from other Schools. In addition, you can follow language courses at the Language Center, or participate in the Tilburg University Summer School in July and August.

Free language course

Do you want to improve your skills in Dutch or another foreign language? Or do you want to add a whole new language to your skills? Our Language Center offers a wide array of courses and training in nine languages at several levels of proficiency: Arabic, Chinese, German, English, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, and Spanish.

The ability to speak another language is invaluable for participation in an international exchange program as well as for your future career.

At the start of your studies, you will receive free language course vouchers worth a total of 12 ECTS. These vouchers give you the opportunity to attend language courses for free.

Training courses and workshops

Besides your regular curriculum, you can enhance your professional and personal skills with a variety of courses and workshops offered by the Student Desk or with additional training courses offered by Career Services. Some of these courses and workshops are ‘How to find a job in the Netherlands’ (for non-Dutch students), a LinkedIn workshop, and an ‘Intercultural Communication’ workshop.

Study and student associations

Tilburg University is home to a wide range of student associations and societies. They are a great way to meet like-minded students and make friends. There are organizations for arts and culture, sports, student politics and philosophy, as well as study-related associations. You will also find organizations aimed specifically at international students which organize all kinds of social activities.

Becoming active in an association provides the ideal opportunity to develop your skills and talents, both personally and academically.

Study association Animo

Animo organizes study related activities such as: company visits, symposia, career days and the annual study trip. Besides the formal activities Animo also aims to connect students via informal activities like music nights, parties, outdoor sports or other fun activities with partner study associations.

Members are as various as they can be: first-year students or Master students, internationals or Dutch and diverse in interests and majors. Joining our study association will enrich your study experience and social life on campus in an interesting and also fun way.

Entrepreneurship

If you aspire to start your own company either now or in the future, Tilburg University offers you many ways to develop or advance your entrepreneurial skills and ambitions:

  • Tilburg Center of Entrepreneurship offers educational programs on both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. It aims to create both academic and practical insights, which is why some of the courses contain a web-based skills training.
  • You will have access to Starterslift, an organization that functions exclusively to help startups bring their products or services to market.
  • You will have the chance to rent an office via the Business Center.
  • At the Academic Business Club you can exchange experiences and best practices with fellow student entrepreneurs.

The Outreaching Program and Honors Program offer challenging and inspiring education. Develop yourself, deepen your interests, and get to know other disciplines. It is the ideal way to show more of yourself.

Outreaching Honors Program

The Outreaching Honors Program is an extracurricular two-year program of excellence for outstanding Bachelor's students of all Schools at Tilburg University. It takes place in the second and third year of studies.

The Outreaching Honors Program is an opportunity to make a real contribution to society while expanding your own career prospects by developing sustainable leadership and personal skills. Master classes with industry professionals, lab sessions supervised by notable professors, internships and team activities including a study trip are just part of what you can expect from this program.

Honors Program: Trust in the Information Age

The Trust in the Information Age is a thought-provoking Honors Program in which multiple aspects of trust and reliability will be considered from political, cultural, legal, economic and media perspectives.

The courses are exclusively open to participants in the Honors Program and are designed to gratify the participants’ curiosity rather than simply extend their regular course programs

During the second and third year of your Bachelor’s program you will take a total of four extra courses; one per semester. These four courses are taught by lecturers from different schools within Tilburg University. 

Dante Award

To stimulate internationalization, the Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences grants two annual Dante Awards for the two best studying abroad activities. Every semester, an award is given for the best plan involving teaching activities, research activities, or a combination of the two.
