Exchange application

The application and registration process consists of the following steps.

Deadlines

We expect all applications to be submitted by the appropriate deadlines. Applications which are submitted after the below deadline will not be considered.

  • Fall and Full Year applications: 15 May
  • Spring applications: 15 October

1. Check if your university is an exchange partner of Tilburg University

The International Office or the Study Abroad Advisor at your home university will know if they can send exchange students to Tilburg University. We advise you to ask them or check their website. Tilburg University does not offer a free mover program for exchange students.

2. Application at your home institution

If your university is an exchange partner of Tilburg University, you can apply for an exchange period via the International Office of your own university.

3. Application at Tilburg University

Once we have received your nomination from your home institution, you will receive our application procedure by email approximately one month before the application deadline. We make use of an online application system. In this online application form, we ask for some personal details, your educational background and a proposed study plan.

  • Students with mainland  Chinese nationality (not including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau) need to submit a TOEFL or IELTS certificate in order to obtain a visa to study at Tilburg University as an exchange student. Please visit our language requirements page to check which IELTS/TOEFL level you are expected to meet.
  • For students of all other nationalities, we rely on our partner universities to nominate students who are proficient in English to the level outlined on our language requirements page.  However, you do not need to take a language exam (for example Cambridge, TOEFL, IELTS) or submit a certificate.
Step 1: Create your own account in our online application system

You received an invitation by email to apply for your exchange. In this invitation, you found a link to our online application system where you can create your own account. After you created an account, you can start with your application.

Step 2: Find your courses

You can find an overview of the courses that are open to exchange students, on the web page Courses for Exchange Students. Exchange students are allowed to choose courses from all Schools.

Step 3: Complete and submit the online application form

Please complete the online application form. You will be able to download all instructions from our online application system (Mobility Online).

  • The estimated time to complete your online application is 30 – 45 minutes.
  • You will be able to submit your application after you completed all the necessary steps.
  • Don’t worry, you do not have to complete all steps at once. You can take your time and log in every time you would like to work on your application.
  • All documents that have to be included to your application can be submitted through our online system.

You will use another system to start and finalize your visa application. After submitting your online application, you will be informed about this system and how to log into it at a later stage to work on your visa application.

Step 4: Wait for registration and processing of your course requests

After submitting your application, Tilburg University will send you a confirmation by e-mail and will start the admission procedure by evaluating your educational background and your course requests.

Once we have received your application, we will register you as an exchange student and process your course requests. The application form will be temporarily closed for you. If relevant documents are missing, you will receive an e-mail from us with further instructions.

Step 5: Receive your acceptance letter

An acceptance e-mail  will be sent to you once your application has been reviewed. This means you are officially accepted as an exchange student at Tilburg University! You will also be able to download the Acceptance letter in your online workflow.

After that, we will notify the Tilburg University Immigration Officers of your acceptance. If necessary, they will contact you directly by e-mail to inform you about the visa and/or residence permit application procedure.

If you have been admitted to the exchange program at Tilburg University, you will receive your acceptance letter with further information about accommodation, immigration, registration days and our Tilburg Orientation Program Week.

Step 6: Wait for approval of your (proposed) study plan

We will start checking your proposed study plan after you are accepted as an exchange student. As soon as the approval for all courses is finished, we will inform you by e-mail and you will be able to view the outcome of your proposed study plan, in your online workflow.

Step 7: Make your final study plan

Once the course schedules have come online (this will be around the end of July for Fall and mid-December for Spring) you will receive a short period of time to re-assess your courses and make the necessary course changes. These changes will result in a final study plan. You can read detailed instructions about creating your final study plan via your workflow in Mobility Online.
