classroom learning chinees

Chinese for beginners 1

In this course you will practice intensively the tones and sounds of Mandarin and build vocabulary at a rapid pace. You will learn to write Chinese characters and become proficient in Pinyin, the system of representing Chinese in Latin letters.

The practice activities in this course focus on practical and realistic situations, such as talking about yourself and your family, giving short descriptions, and asking and answering simple questions. Cultural topics are also covered during the lessons.

By the end of the course you will have reached level A1 of the European Framework of Reference. You will then be able to:

  • recognize and use basic, commonly used words and expressions that relate to yourself, your family, and your immediate environment when spoken slowly and clearly ;
  • use a range of appropriate vocabulary and expressions, participate in a simple conversation and/or interact with native Chinese speakers at a beginners' level on topics related to yourself, your family, your studies, and daily life. Understand the differences and similarities between your own culture and those of Chinese-speaking countries and make them comprehensible to others to facilitate communication;
  • transfer to the Chinese for Beginners 2 course.
