Dutch I for Expats

This is a course geared toward university-educated professionals who primarily work or study in an English-speaking environment, but would like to learn Dutch for day-to-day survival skills. This course teaches you basic Dutch grammar and you acquire vocabulary that is geared toward practical situations.

During the lessons, many dialogues and roleplays are used. You can prepare and review the lessons using the online material. You will also do written exercises on a weekly basis that you must rewrite yourself based on feedback from your instructor. The cultural subjects dealt with are primarily geared toward day-to-day life, such as food and drinks and the Dutch way of making appointments.

At the end of the course you will be able to

  • talk about your family;
  • make an appointment;
  • order in a café or restaurant;
  • talk about living space;
  • move on to the course Dutch II for Expats.

Target group

International employees and external participants who want to learn Dutch. If you have already taken a Dutch course but you are not sure about your level, take the level test or look at the differences between Dutch I and II. You can also contact the Student Desk.

Specifics

  • This course is taught entirely online.

  • Since active participation is a key part of language skills courses, you need to be able to interact with the group in a digital environment. Make sure you have a stable internet connection, working webcam and headset or microphone. Please read the recommended hardware requirements before subscribing.

  • 80% attendance is required. Lectures are not recorded for later viewing.
