Dutch II for Expats

This course is a continuation of Dutch I for Expats and provides an even more comprehensive foundation in the Dutch language. You will be trained from level A1 to level A2 of the European Framework of Reference. Like Dutch I for Expats, the course is intended for Tilburg University employees and other highly educated interested parties.

Using the online material, you can prepare and review the lessons. You will also be given a weekly writing assignment, which you will have to rewrite based on feedback from your lecturer. Cultural topics that are addressed focus mainly on practical information, such as the weather, cycling, and medical care. Part 2 of the Start.nl method is covered in its entirety.

By the end of the course, you will have reached level A2 of the European Framework of Reference. You will then be able to:

  • give and ask for personal information, such as a person's home, health, and relationships;
  • ask for directions and give directions;
  • describe things such as the weather and different tastes of food and drink;
  • share personal past experiences about things such as vacations or the house a person lived in;
  • ask friendly questions and understand and give different kinds of instructions related to cooking or exercise;
  • encourage and compliment someone;
  • give advice, for example regarding health;
  • give and ask preferences and opinions about everyday topics;
  • understand the differences and similarities between your own culture and those of Dutch-speaking countries and make them understandable to others to facilitate communication;
  • advance to Dutch III.
