Dutch III

This course is a continuation of Dutch II for Expats, Dutch II for International students and Dutch Fast Track - courses with A2 as the final level. This course expands your language level substantially to A2+. It covers topics such as identity, food and health, work, education, and science.

All skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing) are practiced, with a consistent emphasis on interaction. For example, there are many speaking assignments that you perform during class with your fellow students, through dialogues or in the form of a presentation. You will also complete several writing assignments, mainly in independent study time. About two-thirds of the book Dutch in Action is covered.

Target group

International students, staff and participants from outside the university who have passed the course Dutch II for International Students, Dutch Fast Track, Dutch II for Expats, or a comparable course at level A2 of the European Framework of Reference. If you have already taken a Dutch course but have doubts about your level, please take this placement test (links to the (external) website of a fellow institute) or read more about the differences between Dutch I and II. You can also contact the Student Desk.

By the end of the course, you will have reached level A2+ of the European Reference Framework. You will then be able to:

  • exchange information on topics such as identity, food and health, travel, education and science and learning Dutch;
  • understand spoken or written texts on the topics mentioned in detail, assuming the text is at the appropriate language level;
  • write a short cover letter;
  • discuss a proposition;
  • use would/could for polite questions or wishes;
  • understand the differences and similarities between your own culture and those of Dutch-speaking countries and make them comprehensible to others to facilitate communication.
