three PhD students

English

The Language Center offers a number of English courses from general proficiency to specialized writing or speaking courses. How do you choose the best English course for you? What exactly is the difference between the courses? More information about this can be found on this page.

Writing courses

In these courses you will work on writing skills in various contexts. There is general academic writing course for students at any phase in their studies and a specific thesis writing workshop that can guide you while you are writing a Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis

General language skills

For those who want to improve their general language skills, there are three courses.  Advanced English and Expert English go to the C1 and C2 level respectively and cover all four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The English Master’s Prep Course prepares students who have not studied in English before (Dutch-taught program or transfer students from abroad) for studying in an English-taught Master’s program.

Specialized courses

These courses have a specific purpose as the course title reflects.

Training for TiU staff

In addition to these courses for students, there are a number of courses specifically for staff members.

Employees can also come to us for the English Assessment or for customized training options that are tailored to your service, department or organization. Please contact the Language Center for advice on what is the best solution for you.

Training for external professionals

The courses above are either designed specifically for non-TiU professionals or designed for TiU staff but open to external professionals as well. Organizations can also contact the Language Center for information about customized training options.
