Dutch - Fast Track

In this course for native speakers of Germanic languages other than English (such as German, Norwegian or Swedish), you will quickly learn the basic grammar of Dutch. You will acquire vocabulary aimed at understanding simple written and spoken Dutch. Owing to the affinities between your mother tongue and Dutch, you will reach level A2 in a short time.

In addition to grammar and vocabulary, the course pays a lot of attention to speaking and writing skills. This is done through assignments inside and outside of class. Both part 1 and part 2 of the method Start.nl are covered in their entirety.

By the end of the course, you will have reached level A2 of the European Framework of Reference. You will then be able to:

  • give and ask for personal information about things such as studies, hobbies, family, someone's home, health, and relationships;
  • share information about routines and habits, such as your daily routine and meals;
  • make an appointment and respond to a proposal;
  • go shopping, order food and drinks, and discuss someone's preferences or prices;
  • ask for directions and give directions;
  • describe things like the weather and different tastes of food and drink;
  • share personal past experiences about things like vacations or the house a person has lived in;
  • ask friendly questions and understand and give different kinds of instructions related to cooking or exercise;
  • encourage and compliment someone;
  • give advice, for example regarding health;
  • give and ask preferences and opinions about everyday topics;
  • understand the differences and similarities between your own culture and those of Dutch-speaking countries and make them comprehensible to others to facilitate communication;
