Dutch - Fast Track

In this course for native speakers of a Germanic language, such as German, Norwegian, or Swedish, you will quickly learn the basic grammar of Dutch. You will acquire vocabulary aimed at understanding simple written and spoken Dutch. The pace of this course is high. As a result, you will reach level A2 within this course.

In the classroom, a lot of attention is also paid to writing and speaking in Dutch by means of short presentations and written assignments.

At the end of the course you will be able to

  • use the Dutch language at CEFR-level A2. This means for instance that you can:
    • talk about yourself, your hobbies, and your family
    • do the grocery shopping
    • talk about what you do every day and what you did yesterday
    • talk with your general practitioner
    • ask for directions
  • move on to the course Dutch III

Final Exam

The course is completed with an oral exam and a written exam (midterm and final).

Specifics

  • Because there are currently no COVID restrictions, the format for this course is entirely on campus. Should COVID restrictions (such as the 1.5 meter rule) be re-introduced, the Language Center may decide to change the format to an entirely or predominantly online course.
  • Since active participation is a key part of language skills courses, you need to be able to interact with the group, no matter what group you choose. In case of an online group , you need to make sure you have a stable internet connection, working webcam and headset or microphone. See recommended hardware requirements. 
  • 80% attendance is required. Lectures are not recorded for later viewing.

  • Staff Tilburg University: the first Dutch course is free of charge for the employee but will be paid by the School/Service. If you have already participated in a Dutch course at the Language Center, you pay € 420
