Documents for application LOGO statement: questions and answers

To work as a basic psychologist in the Dutch Mental Health Service (GGZ) or Dutch Forensic Care after getting your Master’s degree in Psychology and Mental Health*, it is, as of January 2024, mandatory to have a LOGO statement**. You also need this LOGO statement if you want to follow the Post-Master's training to become a Health Care Psychologist (in Dutch: GZ-opleiding) or Psychotherapist. These Post-Master's programs are only offered in Dutch. That is why all forms and statements are in Dutch.

This information is also available in Dutch.

What is the LOGO statement?

You can apply for a LOGO statement at the LOGO Association. In order to apply for the LOGO statement, you have to submit the following documents, in addition to your curriculum vitae, Master’s degree and grade list:

  • Evidence of prior education: Verklaring vooropleidingseisen (vLOGO)
  • Diagnostic evidence: Basisaantekening Psychodiagnostiek (BAPD)  or Diagnostics statement LOGO.

Visit the LOGO website

Visit the NIP BAPD Website

Evidence of prior education

The Verklaring Vooropleidingseisen (vLOGO) and BAPD consist of a number of requirements (ECTS). You can meet these requirements by doing specific courses during your Bachelor’s and Master’s program in Psychology. The combination of these courses will show whether you have met all the requirements of the statements.

Diagnostic evidence

As diagnostic evidence, you can use the BAPD or the “Diagnostics statement LOGO”. The diagnostics statement LOGO was drawn up by the LOGO Association as an alternative to the BAPD  with regard to of obtaining the LOGO statement. Given the more stringent requirements for design and development as well as independent monitoring, the, nationwide, BAPD is considered a stronger qualitative diagnostic seal of approval. Obtaining the diagnostics statement LOGO is done without the involvement of Tilburg University. There are no theoretical requirements specifically associated with the diagnostic statement LOGO. The practice supervisor of the internship institution declares by means of the diagnostics statement LOGO that at least diagnostics 3 cases were carried out independently and at a sufficient level under his/her supervision.  For more specific guidelines visit "veelgestelde vragen" at vLOGO | Vereniging Landelijk Overleg Geestelijke gezondheidzorg Opleidingsinstellingen. Because the diagnostics statement is done without the involvement of the university, this Q&A focuses primarily on the BAPD NIP regarding documentary evidence of the diagnostics.

In the Q&A below, you can find out what you need to do to get your documents in your situation.

*The Master’s program in Psychology and Mental Health consists of the Master tracks Clinical Psychology (in Dutch), Clinical Child and Youth Psychology (in Dutch), Clinical Forensic Psychology (in Dutch), Clinical Neuropsychology (in English) and Positive Psychology and Wellbeing (in English). With the exception of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing, all programs offer the opportunity to obtain the vLOGO statement and the BAPD, given that you took the required courses during your Bachelor’s program and your clinical internship meets the requirements.

**The ZPM announced on January 31, 2023 that the application for the LOGO statement is not a requirement for the ZPM (in Dutch). The files required for the LOGO application may also be submitted to the employer. The employer will keep the required documents on file (such as the statement regarding prior education requirements, the statement/basic annotation in diagnostics). We will focus on obtaining the LOGO statement on this page since the required documents are the same.

Q&A on Verklaring Vooropleidingseisen and BAPD

I applied for admission to the Master’s program in Psychology and Mental Health (PGG) and received a decision from the Admissions Committee.

You applied for admission to a track of the Master Psychology and Mental Health (Psychologie en Geestelijke Gezondheid, abbreviated to PGG).

  1. Did you apply via the international procedure (diploma from non-Dutch educational institution)?
Following your request, you received a (conditional) admission letter from the Admissions Committee to the Master's program of your choice.
  2. Did you apply via the national procedure (diploma obtained in the Netherlands)? You received a decision from the Admissions Committee, reflecting:
  • A direct or conditional admission to the Master's program of your choice.

OR

  • An individual pre-master's program with the goal to be admitted to the Master's program in Psychology and Mental Health (PGG) after completion of this program.

In addition to the letter about your admission, below you will find important information if you wish to obtain the Basisaantekening Psychodiagnostiek (BAPD) and the Verklaring Vooropleiding (vLOGO) during your Master's program in Psychology and Mental Health (PGG).

As you can read on this webpage, you need a LOGO statement to start working as a basic psychologist in the Dutch Mental Health Care (GGZ) or Dutch Forensic Care after the Master Psychology and Mental Health (PGG). A number of supporting documents are required to apply for a LOGO statement after the Master's program.

The PGG tracks Clinical Psychology (in Dutch), Clinical Forensic Psychology (in Dutch), Clinical Child and Youth Psychology (in Dutch) or Clinical Neuropsychology (in English, only if an external clinical internship is chosen for the latter) offer the opportunity to obtain two of these documents: Basisaantekening Psychodiagnostiek (BAPD) and the Verklaring Vooropleiding (vLOGO).

Please note: the track Positive Psychology and Well-being does not offer this possibility!
Therefore, it is important to consider the points below.

  1. Obtaining the BAPD and vLOGO is not part of the study program, not an obligation, nor a guarantee, but a free (career) choice of the student.
  2. The requirements for admission to the Master are not the same as the requirements for the BAPD and vLOGO. Meeting the requirements for the BAPD and vLOGO is unfortunately not guaranteed by the assessment of your file in the admission procedure of the Master PGG, because these requirements do not correspond completely.
Likewise, in the case of an individual pre-master's program, the requirements for the BAPD and vLOGO will not automatically be met. An individual pre-master's program only consists of courses that are necessary to meet the admission requirements for the Master PGG. In practice, this means that individual pre-master students usually have deficiencies for BAPD and vLOGO.
  3. Students who wish to obtain the Basisaantekening Psychodiagnostiek (BAPD) and the Verklaring Vooropleiding (vLOGO) during the Master's program must verify whether the requirements can be met.

Therefore, we advise you to check to what extent you will meet the requirements for BAPD and LOGO before the start of your Master's or individual Pre-master's program.
You can find more information and what you need to do on this webpage.

Should you discover any shortcomings (deficiencies), then these need to be eliminated before completing the Master's degree to be able to obtain the certificates BAPD and vLOGO via Tilburg University.

  • Master's students can still eliminate deficiencies during the master's program, but this is not recommended. It means an increase in the study load because this must be done on top of the master's program. Moreover, taking extra courses can be difficult to organize because of conflicting timetables.
  • For individual pre-master's students, it is possible to take extra courses within the individual pre-master's program via the contract/schedule program. For this, extra costs based on the pre-master fee will be charged. Also in this case, this means an increase in the study load on top of the compulsory individual pre-master's program that needs to be completed to be able to start the PGG Master's program.

In case you found deficiencies, you can contact the education coordinators of the PGG master via  Ma_PGG@tilburguniversity.edu. They can discuss with you what is possible and feasible to eliminate deficiencies.

  • If you finished your Bachelor’s program in Psychology or different prior education abroad, you have to get your diploma evaluated by the International Credential Evaluation. Subsequently, vLOGO will evaluate your academic trajectory. The vLOGO will only evaluate complete trajectories (Bachelor and Master). Therefore, obtaining a 'verklaring vooropleidingseisen' of only the Bachelor's program you finished abroad is not possible.

BAPD

The Open University and NIP assess foreign education. There are specific theoretical requirements for the courses, which will be evaluated individually. Make sure you have the following documents:

  • Course list
  • Course descriptions
  • Application form assessment of theoretical requirements. You can find this on the NIP webpage (under the heading “4. Theoretische eisen”)
