Interview Adib Abdulmajid

Testimonial MCD Adib Abdulmajid

"During my daily work as manager of ARA News agency, I could never avoid the concepts I have learned during my study at Tilburg University; with a focus on how to manage cultural diversity in a bid to create the most harmonious and productive environment possible among people with different cultural backgrounds."

Putting this program and a journalistic background into press agency practice

"After graduating from the English Department at Damascus University in 2008, I was obliged to leave Syria under pressure for participating in pro-democracy activities. Searching for a new beginning has not been an easy journey. However, the Netherlands became my new home following years of seeking asylum.

The mounting obstacles have not prevented me from finding my path academically and professionally. My journalistic background has inspired me to launch a press agency concerned with the dramatic developments in the Middle-East, focusing on the consequences of war in Syria and Iraq together with a network of 30 local journalists.

During my daily work as manager of ARA News agency, I could never avoid the concepts I have learned during my study at Tilburg University. Putting the theoretical knowledge into practice and having great results at the institutional level reflect the relevance of every educational item I have learned throughout years of study at Tilburg University."

Delve deep into social aspects that go unnoticed in our daily life

"At the academic level, I would have never found a more convenient environment than that of Tilburg University. Under the banner “Understanding Society”, the university has inspired me to delve deep into social aspects that go unnoticed in our daily life. Starting with the bachelor program Liberal Arts and Sciences and studying the master Management of Cultural Diversity (MCD) have provided me with greater opportunities at the professional level.

The MCD program includes a collection of quite interesting and highly relevant courses, as we all live a world governed by daily inter-cultural communications. The positive as well as the negative aspects of living or working in a culturally diverse environment are thoroughly covered in this program, and even more interestingly its focus on how to manage this diversity in a bid to create the most harmonious and productive environment possible among people with different cultural backgrounds."

Located in a city characterized by a social mosaic

"The university is located in a city characterized by a social mosaic, where the rural Dutch meets with the urban and people from various countries of origin gather to form a unique melting-pot of different cultures. Living and studying in Tilburg will always remain the most special phase in my life and a major turning point in my career"
