“A special aspect of the program is the fact that it is very practical for an academic Master's program. This allows you to get a feeling of what you can expect when you will get a job in the marketing sector. Also the different point of views that are addressed during the Master's program, (e.g. brand management, marketing communication etc.) provide you with different insights of the field of marketing, which is both interesting and challenging.”

Student Niels Ansems about the program:

Educational background

After finishing my VWO education at Onze Lieve Vrouwelyceum Breda, I went to Tilburg University to follow the Bachelor's program in Business Studies. I chose this program because I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do and Business Studies was a Bachelor's program that offered diverse courses. This way I could find out which courses I liked or disliked.

Why Tilburg University?

There are several reasons why I chose Tilburg University. First, Tilburg is in close proximity to my home. This saved me an enormous amount of travelling time. The second reason is based on the feeling I experienced when I visited the campus for the first time. I immediately experienced the nice atmosphere and I saw an attractive and rather modern campus. This experience was far better than I had perceived during visits to other universities. The final reason why I chose Tilburg University was due to the quality of the Bachelor's and Master's programs. I read several promising news articles on the internet that were very positive about Tilburg

Master Marketing Management

After I graduated from my Bachelor's program in Business Studies I was in two minds: should I study Strategic Management or Marketing Management. I chose to follow the master in Strategic Management, which I finished about one year later. After graduating, I had the feeling that I still wasn't specialized in a specific field (Strategic Management is a very broad Master's program) and therefore I chose to follow my second Master's program, namely Marketing Management. Marketing Management is the specialized Master's program I was looking for! I received several assignments and I finally thought: "this is what I want to do for a living". During the Master's program, I came across different aspects of the marketing sector. One of those sectors was the cultural sector during my Master's thesis. Although I'm not a "culture freak", it was very interesting to see that marketing practices can be implemented in all fields of business. Since marketing can be incorporated in all imaginable business sectors, it is a challenging world to work in.

Your experiences

Although I cannot compare this to programs at other universities, I think that Tilburg University offers high quality courses on a campus which is spacious and modern. The facilities are modern and the campus is great , especially during summer time. However, during some period in the year (e.g. exams) it might be very busy in the library. This means that all computers may be busy. The most positive experience of my stay at Tilburg University was its relaxed atmosphere.

Tilburg city

Since I grew up in a small village near Breda, Tilburg will never be my number 1 city and Willem II will never by my favorite soccer team. But, I got to know Tilburg a lot better during my period at Tilburg University and I have to admit it is a great city! It is really student-minded which means that the whole week there are numerous bars and restaurants open that offer meals and drinks for student-prices. This means that the city is 'alive' the whole time!

Career aspirations

During these days of recession, it is quite unclear what my career possibilities are. This might entail that it is quite difficult to find a job immediately. Therefore I have decided to try to obtain a traineeship. This traineeship should be preferably at a company acting in the FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) industry.
