Data Science is becoming more and more essential to find answers to the challenges of our era. To accelerate data science-based solutions, the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) was formed. JADS is an unique concept in the Netherlands: At three different locations  - the JADS Mariënburg campus in ‘s- Hertogenbosch, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and Tilburg University - Data Science can be studied, researched and applied at the highest level.

This course in short

  • Content:
    Over two weeks you take courses in five Data Science focus fields and at three different campuses. It’s a great introduction to the world of data science, and the multidisciplinary excellence of JADS.
  • Entry requirements:
    Students with an interest in the field of Computer Science and Data Science, currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Master’s degree. Please be aware that English proficiency (spoken and written) is required.

Course aims

Data Science is becoming more and more essential to find answers to the challenges of our era. To accelerate data science- based solutions, the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) was formed. Over two weeks you take courses in four Data Science focused fields and at three different campuses. It’s a great introduction to the world of Data Science, and the multidisciplinary excellence of JADS.

Course content

Your Data Driven Summer introduces you to five key Focus Fields:

  • Data Science & Entrepreneurship
    These courses focus on Data Science and its application in business. Special attention is given to entrepreneurship within the Data Science realm.
  • Data Science in Engineering
    This focus field includes mathematics and computer Science offered at TU/e.
  • Data Science Business and Governance
    This course focuses on knowledge and expertise in the area of data analysis and data mining, and also on the economic, management and legal perspectives of big data.
  • Marketing Analytics
    In this focus field the highlight is on the ways that Big Data is gaining importance in the marketing field; companies are looking for academic professionals who can analyze data and give managerial advice based on the findings.

Course program

During the Summer School you can expect both inspiring talks by companies as well as academic lectures within the previously mentioned fields. This is meant to optimize the understanding of how to apply the theoretical background into the practical real world. Although half of the time our professionals will bring you along their field of expertise, they also will stimulate you to go work with it, by guiding you through challenging cases. Next to the smaller course specific cases, you will also work in teams during the two weeks to deliver a final product which will cover all the different topics. By providing continuous feedback given by our professionals, you will go back home with a big dose of new knowledge, inspiring entrepreneurial thinking and, most importantly, enthusiasm about the field of Data Science!

Course materials and specifics

Course material

The required course materials will be made available (electronically or hard copy) by the lecturers.

Course specifics

  • Application must contain a transcript of records/grade list.
  • English proficiency is required.
  • This summer school offers you a stimulating mix of plenary classes, small group work sessions, and company visits.
  • Your final course grade will be based on your scores for the various assignments. To pass the course, an attendance rate of at least 80% is required. This is also a prerequisite for being allowed to participate in a resit.

    Application and registration

    During the registration process, you are required to submit the following information related to your academic background:

    • Scanned copy of your transcript of records and Diploma (if applicable).
    • Curriculum Vitae.

    Your registration for Tilburg University Summer School must be completed by May 31st, 2018. Note that the Early Bird application deadline is April 1st, 2018. Tilburg University Summer School reserves the right to cancel the course in case there are not enough applicants. If the maximum number of students is reached, a waiting list will be used.
