Andrew Cartwright

Andrew Cartwright werd in 2009 verkozen tot derde campusdichter van Tilburg University. De toen 42-jarige Engelsman was de eerste campusdichter die niet als student maar als medewerker - Cartwright is docent Engels bij het talencentrum - verbonden was aan de universiteit.

Cartwright is al van jongs af aan bezig met dichten en het schrijven van korte verhalen. Hij studeerde English Literature & Language in Liverpool en volgde een master American Literature met als specialisatie Modern American Poetry & Painting. In 1995 verschenen enkele gedichten van zijn hand in de verzamelbundel 'X24' (Black Dog Press, Londen). Dichtte hij aanvankelijk enkel in het Engels, steeds vaker combineert hij op speelse wijze de Engelse en Nederlandse taal.

She would not let the expressions 'drie keer niks'
Or 'doe even normaal' pass her lips
She had four pets:
A monkey named Idiom
A snake called Slang
A parrot, Paradox
And a pig by the name of Ham
