Bio

Ik ben universitair docent bij de afdeling Sociale Psychologie van Tilburg University. Mijn onderzoeksaanpak volgt het paradigma van Social Cognition, waarbij ik sociale fenomenen probeer te begrijpen door de cognitieve processen die daarbij betrokken zijn te onderzoeken.

Ik bestudeer hoe we anderen begrijpen en empathie voor hen ontwikkelen, in het bijzonder door middel van perspectiefbepaling. Ik probeer de mechanismen te begrijpen die aan deze processen ten grondslag liggen en wat de gevolgen ervan zijn, bijvoorbeeld voor sociale en economische besluitvorming, voor organisatorisch gedrag of voor mentale gezondheid en welzijn.

Ik onderzoek ook emoji als een middel om non-verbaal te communiceren in digitale tekstgebaseerde communicatie vanuit het gezichtspunt van sociale theorieën over emotie, zowel in sociale interacties met weinig inzet, als in werk- en organisatiecontexten (bijv. communicatie op de werkplek) en economische contexten (bijv. online klant-merk interacties).

Expertise

Ik doe voornamelijk experimenteel onderzoek met behulp van gedrags- en psychofysiologische methoden om de mechanismen bloot te leggen die ten grondslag liggen aan sociale cognities, gedragingen en beslissingen.

Mijn onderzoek is gefinancierd door de Deutsche Forschungsstiftung (DFG), de European Association for Social Psychology (EASP), Prolific Academic, Tilburg University en het Nürnberg Institute for Market Decisions (NIM). 

Onderwijs

Aan Tilburg University heb ik cursussen gegeven in de Werkgroeppsychologie, Experimenteel Onderzoeksdesign en Sociale Cognitie.

Aan mijn vorige instellingen heb ik cursussen gegeven over Impliciete Sociale Cognitie, Attitudes en Overtuiging, Onderzoeksmethoden, Empathie & Perspectief, Interculturele Competentie, en Communicatie & Retoriek.

Bij alle instellingen heb ik ook scripties begeleid op alle niveaus (Bachelor, Master, Research Master). Momenteel ben ik ook de master thesis coördinator van onze afdeling, evenals de coördinator van de sociale psychologie track van de bachelor psychologie. Dus voel je vrij om vragen over het afronden van je master thesis of de major/minor sociale psychologie aan mij te stellen.
