This is the national application and admission procedure for the track Health, Wellbeing and Society of the MSc Sociology.

a) Check your eligibility

Students of Tilburg University

Bachelor’s students of Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences

The following TSB Bachelor's make you eligible to the Master track Health, Wellbeing and Society:

  • BSc Sociologie or International Sociology
  • BSc Global Management of Social Issues
  • Another TSB Bachelor's program, provided that one of the following minors, or a combination of courses from those minors (minimum of 18 ECTS) in Sociology has been completed:
    • Culture in Comparative Perspective
    • Social Risks in a Changing World
    • Grootstedelijke Vraagstukken

Bachelor’s students of University College Tilburg

The Bachelor Liberal Arts and Sciences with a major in Social Sciences: Human Behavior makes you eligible to the Master's track Health, Wellbeing and Society.​

For admission to this Master's program you must register in Studielink. See Step 1 of the admission procedure below.

To start with the program you should have the following prior knowledge:

  • Sufficiently conversant in the social sciences : Sociology for Social Sciences; Key questions concerning sociology; Contemporary sociological theories; Classical and modern sociology in action.
  • Sufficient knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and statistics.
  • Knowledge of the Bachelor's subjects which feature in the relevant minor.

Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis. Should you fail to meet all the prerequisites for admission to the Master's program, you may be able to make up this so-called deficit by taking an individual pre-Master's program at Tilburg University.

Students of a Dutch University of Applied Sciences (hbo)

You may qualify for the half-year pre-Master's program Sociology: Health, Wellbeing and Society.

If you have completed the pre-Master’s program and have passed all the exams (30 ECTS), you are automatically admitted to one of the following:

Bachelor students Leisure Studies Breda University of Applied Sciences

You are eligible for admission to the Master’s track Health, Wellbeing and Society when you have successfully completed the Academic Bachelor’s program Leisure Studies at Breda University of Applied Sciences, including the minor in Sociology.

Bachelor students Convenant programs hbo

You are eligible for admission to the Master’s track Health, Wellbeing and Society when you have successfully completed one of the following hbo Bachelor’s programs of the Convenant program: 

Avans University of Applied Sciences ’s-Hertogenbosch and Breda

  • Bachelor’s programs in Social Work respectively
    • Sociaal Pedagogische Hulpverlening,
    • Maatschappelijk Werk en Dienstverlening and
    • Culturele Maatschappelijke Vorming

b) Consider the deadlines

Both the pre-Master’s program and the Master’s program have two intake moments. You must register yourself in Studielink before:

  • Starting end of August: August 1
  • Starting end of January: December 15

Please note: Make sure you complete your application on time. 
Make sure you are well prepared to start your (pre)-Master.

c) Follow the procedure for national applicants

Step 1: Register in Studielink

After you have registered in Studielink, the program's Admissions Committee will assess whether your previous education is a sufficient fit with this program to be admitted. Studielink opens on October 1.

  • The name of the pre-Master's program in Studielink
    B Sociologie (premaster) (CROHO-code: 42593)

Register in Studielink

Enter an e-mail address in Studielink that you use regularly. Tilburg University will use this e-mail address to send you important information on your application and admission and/or to request additional information to assess your admissibility.

Step 2: Continue your application in our online application system

This step is not applicable for:  

Students who are currently enrolled or have already completed a Bachelor's -, pre-Master’s – or convenant’s program program at Tilburg University that makes them directly admissible for this Master’s program.  

  • See the tabs “Students of Tilburg University” and “Bachelor students Convenant programs hbo” below the heading Check your eligibility at the top of this webpage for an overview of Bachelor’s programs that make you directly admissible. 
  • If you are directly admissible with your Bachelor's-, pre-Master’s – or convenant’s program, you only need to register in Studielink . Please continue to Step 3: Admissions Committee's decision. 

In all other cases, you must continue your application in OSIRIS Aanmeld, our online application system, after you have registered in Studielink. 


Application in OSIRIS Aanmeld

Within 1 week of your registration in Studielink, you will receive two e-mails from Tilburg University.  

  • One e-mail contains your Tilburg University account details (your student number and Tilburg University e-mail address). You will not need these details for your application, but please save them carefully, as you will need them at a later stage.
  • The other e-mail contains your OSIRIS Aanmeld account details as well as information on how you can start your application in OSIRIS Aanmeld. If you have not received this e-mail within 1 week of your registration in Studielink, please contact your Admissions Committee via toelatingenprema-matsb@tilburguniversity.edu.

Upload your documents

When you are logged into OSIRIS Aanmeld you will have to upload several documents. Please ollect the requested documents and upload them in pdf-format. 

You will see exactly which documents you need to upload once you have filled out the necessary details in OSIRIS Aanmeld.

Submit your application before the deadline as stated above

If you submit your application either close to or on the deadline, but have not uploaded the correct documents, Tilburg University reserves the right not to process your application.

After submitting your application

Our Admissions Committee will check that your application is complete, according to the requirements above. 

If your documents are not complete, you will be asked to submit any missing or replace any illegible document(s).  

You can check your application status anytime you log in to your account in OSIRIS Aanmeld. 

Step 3: Admissions Committee's decision

The Admissions Committee assesses whether your degree qualifies you for admission to this (pre-)Master's program on a case-by-case basis.

You will receive the decision of the Admissions Committee by e-mail. In general, we aim to assess your application within six weeks.

There are three possibilities:

  • (Conditionally) accepted to the Master's program
    If you are conditionally accepted, this means that you are admitted to our Master's program (on the condition that we request additional information).

  • (Conditionally) accepted to the pre-Master's program
    It is possible that you do not completely fulfill the requirements for the Master’s program. If this is the case, we may offer you a pre-Master's program to prepare you for the Master's program.

  • Rejected
    If you do not fulfill the admission requirements, your application will be rejected. We will e-mail you personally the reasons for the rejection.

Step 4: Admitted, what's next?

Congratulations on being admitted to Tilburg University, either conditionally or unconditionally! 

You may be wondering what the next steps are. To ensure a smooth (and stress-free) start of your studies, we have prepared a timeline to give you an overview of the things you need to arrange before the start of your studies.
