Teaching Methods Organization Studies

Teamwork in real-life settings

Our Master students not only acquire vast theoretical knowledge of theories and models on the team development and functioning (e.g., conflict, collective intelligence) but also get to practice team work in numerous group assignments. The theoretical knowledge on the team dynamics is acquired predominantly in the course Organizational Dynamics, while the actual team work is practiced throughout the program.

Thesis Circles

Thesis circle encompasses a group of up to 8 students who are coached in writing their thesis by experienced supervisor. Circles meet every two to three weeks, depending on the stage of writing the thesis. Circle members not only receive feedback on their thesis from the supervisor but importantly, also from their peers in the circle. What this implies is that in the circle you not only learn to receive and process feedback but also to give it to others.

The circles are centered on certain themes. The themes are relatively broad as to allow you to find the room for your own individual research topic. At the same time, the themes help you to narrow down your interests. The range of circle themes is very broad ranging from relations between organizations and networks, innovation and questions related thereto (for example crowdsourcing: obtaining resources to finance innovation via social and other new media), through internationalization of companies all the way to internal relations within organizations (for example on teams or psychological contracts)

Below is a list of thesis circle themes (which differs somewhat per year):

  • Temporary Organizations
  • Network Management
  • Crowdsourcing for Innovation
  • Breakthrough Innovation and External Collaboration
  • Critical Management
  • Internationalization and Organization Culture
  • Human and Social Capital of Groups
  • Risk Taking in Teams
