Bio

Prof. dr. Max Louwerse is Professor in Cognitive Psychology and Artificial Intelligence in the Department of Cognitive Science & Artificial Intelligence at Tilburg University. He received his PhD in Linguistics (University of Edinburgh) and worked at the University of Memphis as Full Professor in the Department of Psychology and the Institute for Intelligent Systems (IIS), and served as Director of the IIS.

Expertise

Max Louwerse, PhD., is a linguist, a cognitive psychologist, and an artificial intelligence researcher. He is currently Professor of Cognitive Psychology and Artificial Intelligence at Tilburg University, the Netherlands.

Before moving to the Netherlands, he had academic appointments in the United Kingdom and the United States, where he worked for 18 years.

Louwerse has published his interdisciplinary research in over 150 articles in academic journals in linguistics, psychology, computer science, and artificial intelligence. His research has been awarded with over 20 million dollars in research funding. Louwerse has worked on several initiatives to bring research to society, the general public and industry, holds two patents, and is author of the popular science book Keeping Those Words in Mind: How Language Creates Meaning.

Collaboration

Louwerse has been founder of the DAF Technology Lab, the virtual and mixed reality lab on the Tilburg University campus, co-founder of the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (www.jads.nl), and co-founder of MindLabs (www.mind-labs.eu).
