Research Tilburg School of Humanties and Digital Sciences

How to apply?

Being an internal PhD candidate means that you have a temporary working contract with the University and, therefore, have the status of a temporary employee.

All PhD openings are advertised on the Tilburg University website. When clicking on vacancies on this link you can  find the PhD positions available at Tilburg University. The application procedure is explained in the advertisement.

If there are no vacancies in your field, it might be possible to apply for funding (from NWO for example). To find out about funding opportunities, you can contact the Grant Support Team.

Having been awarded a Master diploma is a legal and formal requirement for admission to the PhD program of Tilburg University. If you have obtained a Master diploma from outside of The Netherlands, you will need to go through a diploma recognition process. The Graduate School can take care of the diploma recognition for you. We work together with an external examination board, NUFFIC, who will review the documents and determine whether the diploma obtained is equivalent to a Master's degree obtained in The Netherlands. To start this procedure, please e-mail the following documents to the Graduate School at tshd.graduateschool@tilburguniversity.edu:

  • your passport, birth certificate, or certificate of residence
  • a simple copy of your original diplomas (BA and MA), and a translation into English (if applicable).
  • a simple copy of the original transcripts or mark sheet (BA and MA), and a translation into English (if applicable).

The HR department can arrange the application for the Dutch Residence Permit, if needed.

Once you have been hired you will need to enroll at the Graduate School for Humanities and Digital Sciences. For more information about the enrollment process, please see Enroll at Graduate School in the side menu.
