Call: PhD Purpose Accelerator
Would you like to learn how to make more impact with your academic knowledge and skills? Get a sneak peak into being a researcher who's working with public and private organizations outside of academia? Develop a network for your future career, whether that is one in academia or in government or industry? Join the Purpose Accelerator, bring your skills and knowledge into practice and make impact!
In collaboration with the THRIVE PhD Academy, the Impact Team, offers a 12-month PhD program in which you learn how to use your (academic) skills and knowledge to help solve wicked societal problems, work on your organizational skills and build a meaningful network. The program is developed for and by PhD researchers and optimally catered to your needs and schedule, so you'll be able to participate next to your PhD.
What will you do? You'll be working in a multidisciplinary team of PhD researchers from universities all over the Netherlands and work on a topic in either: Sustainability, Healthcare, Inclusion & Diversity, or the New Economy. All backgrounds are welcome! You don't need to have prior knowledge on a topic as long as you're motivated to learn something new! Over the course of the program, you collaborate with public and private organizations. Previous partners are among others: Municipality of Rotterdam, Zoetermeer, VGZ health insurance, Salut, the Mobile Factory, Momentum Capital, Heineken and Manpower.
Over the course of one year, you learn to tackle a complex challenge by: 1) doing multidisciplinary (applied) research and be a 'knowledge broker' and 2) develop a concrete tool, product, service, or intervention. Something new, exciting, explorative, but most of all: helpful to society!
What are the skills you'll learn along the way? It is a learning on the job kind of deal, you learn skills that are necessary to go from impact ambition to impact. You learn to work together in a team, organizational- and business skills and soft and hard skills such as creative project ideation, communication, project and stakeholder management, pitching, networking, writing convincingly and science outreach.
What else do I gain? You build a new professional network, work with PhDs from other universities and disciplines, gain useful work experience for whether you want an impactful career outside or inside academia and be part of the community or more than 200 alumni of the THRIVE PhD Academy!
In a nutshell, this unique program:
- Offers extensive (on- and off the-job) training of soft- & organizational skills
- Helps you build a relevant network
- Facilitates you in making societal impact collaborations with government and business
- Takes 12-15h per month
