Creating Value from Data

A large part of the behavior of people and systems is recorded daily in large amounts of data, which can also be linked together. The amount of data we produce increases exponentially, as does computing power and the efficiency of algorithms. This creates new opportunities to improve society but also threats and challenges, for example, in the field of privacy.

Tilburg University improves data science techniques and works on transparency, reliability, and fairness in the use of data. To this end, we combine various areas of expertise. Knowledge of algorithms, data mining, and machine learning is linked to expertise in the fields of law, ethics, economics, logistics, labor market, and human resources. The objective of the Impact Program is to apply the available knowledge and expertise, together with external partners, in projects that respond to societal issues and deliver practical applications. In doing so, we contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Data Science Center Tilburg

Tilburg University's data science knowledge and expertise can be used to respond to social issues via Data Science Center Tilburg (DSC/t). In the DSC/t, we unlock insights hidden in large data sets and help social partners and the business community to translate these insights into solutions for complex problems. Good examples of this are the optimization of the World Food Programme of the United Nations and the developing of the world's most reliable robot.
As a partner in the Jheroniumus Academy of Data Science , we offer Bachelor’s, Graduate, and PDEng programs and work on research and practical applications.
