Professor Kim Putters receives Comenius Prize 2024 for vision of Broad Prosperity
08th April 2024On Saturday, April 6, the Comenius Prize 2024 was presented to Prof. Kim Putters in the Great Church in Naarden. The jury praised the President of the Dutch Social and Economic Council (SER) and University Professor of Broad Prosperity for his clear views of society. Kim Putters emphasizes the importance of the perspectives of individuals and argues in favor of a broader view of wellbeing, in which social, economic, and environmental factors are balanced.

Loss of ecosystems incurs higher costs than previously estimated
07th March 2024Across the globe, animal and plant species along with their habitats are disappearing. With this loss, we also lose the 'services' they provide, such as water filtration or crop pollination. An international research team, including Sjak Smulders from Tilburg University, has proposed a new calculation approach to capture these future 'benefits' of nature. The research has been published in the prestigious scientific journal Science.

“Moderate population growth best for maintaining broad prosperity"
01st February 2024The Government Committee on Demographic Developments 2050 has issued a recommendation to the government and the House of Representatives on demographic developments, in particular aging and migration, until at least 2050, held against the light of broad prosperity. Tilburg University's Academic Collaborative Centers contributed to this advice through working visits to Brainport Eindhoven and Parkstad Limburg.

The Government Committee on Demographic Developments makes working visits with academic collaborative centers
29th September 2023The Government Committee on Demographic Developments 2050, together with the Academic Collaborative Centers of the Program for Broad Prosperity of Tilburg University and other experts in the region, paid working visits to Brainport Eindhoven and City Region Parkstad Limburg. The purpose of the working visits was to identify societal issues in the region and assess them in the context of broad prosperity.

Tilburg University invests €8 million in Widespread Prosperity
18th July 2022Current, complex developments such as the climate crisis, rising demand for care, labor market shortages, growing inequality, and digitalization require new solutions. Over the next five years, Tilburg University will release approximately 8 million euros to enable interdisciplinary collaboration and address these issues together with partners. In doing so, the university is fulfilling its task and ambition to be of social significance and contribute to greater welfare, a better labor market, and a social energy transition, all components Widespread Prosperity. The connection between science and practice is thus further reinforced in collaboration with partners from government, education, and industry.
