With the online challenge "Every child a good start", City Deal Tilburg challenges students of Fontys Hogescholen, Tilburg University and professionals to come up with innovative solutions to social issues.

Innovative ideas on the way to implementation

Social issues surrounding quality of life, poverty, debt, unemployment, cohabitation, youth, the elderly and loneliness are all issues that are well known in various Tilburg neighborhoods. Various forms of "socially innovative neighborhood approach" are applied in Tilburg. For this City Deal it was decided to focus on "Every child a good start / future" (age category of 0-16 years).

New approach

In these difficult times, a new challenge approach has been chosen. Not a physical gathering, which was the original plan, but a completely online edition. With the necessary efforts by (communication) staff of the City Deal Tilburg organizations, mobilizing the network and with online information sessions we managed to create sufficient reach and enthusiasm.

Promising entries

Over twenty different ideas were submitted in mid-December in response to the three challenges. Experts from the field such as Vivian Jacobs, program manager of Smart Start and Christien Teulen, director of Pedagogy and Quality Service Bureau Kinderopvang, assessed the submissions with others.  From this first round, 10 submissions were selected before Christmas and invited to the so-called enrichment sessions.

Enrichment sessions

In a maximum of one hour, each participant is given the opportunity to explain the idea, tips and advice are exchanged and an assessment made as to whether the idea has sufficient chance of being implemented by the participant(s). All this is coronaproof by digital meetings. All enrichment sessions have now been held and six submitters have advanced to the final round. These participants will further develop the idea under the guidance of coaches between January 15 and February 25. An independent jury will evaluate each finalist and determine who will be among the winners.

Impact Program

This is one of the challenges the Impact Team contributes to. Tilburg University's Impact Program connects scientists from different fields with social partners to move society forward. By working together new insights and solutions can be developed for the challenges of individuals and society in the 21st century.
