'Eight million euros will be available to tackle major problems in our society.'

Tilburg University wants to use eight million euros to tackle the big problems in our society.

Our colleague Prof. Dr. Irmgard Borghouts hopes that this will succeed in bringing about structural changes in the labor market: "During the financial crisis, there were all kinds of experiments to help people find another job. But that was all temporary. Because the labor market changed, so they were phased out again."

With corona, she says, it went exactly the same way: "Everything is temporary. But you have to ensure that you always have the people in the right place. So I hope that in ten years we will have a system where we have people in the right place and keep them there. And that we are no longer just reacting to temporary developments."

Among others, our colleague Prof. Dr. Irmgard Borghouts is going to research the stalled labor market.

The strength of this research lies in the broad approach, including cooperation with companies, but also with the union CNV, with UWV. Independent research will continue to be ensured.
