European Health Data Space
On 3 May, the European Commission presented its much-awaited legislative proposal for a regulation on the European Health Data Space (EHDS). The EHDS marks “a ‘new beginning’ for the EU’s digital health policy, making health data work for citizens and science.” The proposed regulation aims to establish an EU health-specific framework for accessing and sharing health data by “establishing clear rules, common standards and practices, infrastructures and a governance framework for the use of electronic health data by patients and for research, innovation, policy making, patient safety, statistics or regulatory purposes”. In this Club Med, Tjaša will discuss the main aspects of the proposal, focusing in particular on the provisions regarding primary and secondary use of electronic health data.
