Erik P.M. Vermeulen presents his report on Venture Capital in Startups and Scale-ups to "Brainport Network"

Erik P.M. Vermeulen presented his new report to the Steering Group “Finance” of Brainport Network on November 5.

The report examines the funding gap in early to mid-stage companies in the Brainport region and offers several recommendations. The report argues that the funding or investment gaps in the venture capital cycle are likely to be filled partially by alternative investment options and new types of investors. For instance, the report shows the extent to which corporate venture capital increasingly has the potential to significantly contribute to the growth of small and medium-sized companies and also create more liquidity in the cycle. Also, the report proposes that new collaborative venture capital models may provide an effective basis for funding innovative firms. One of the features of these new models is that corporations have increasingly become anchor investors in early stage venture capital funds that invest in both related and apparently unrelated industries.
