Erik P.M. Vermeulen on The Future Lawyer in Prague

Erik P.M. Vermeulen gave a presentation on THE FUTURE LAWYER at the CONSULEGIS autumn conference in Prague on Friday, October 19, 2018.

The legal profession will be one of the most disrupted sectors of the consulting industry today. First, LegalTech & RegTech will change the way lawyers practice law. Big data & artificial intelligence will make these new tools and technologies more intelligent and accurate.

Second, “retrofitting” (the “adding” of digital solutions to older legal systems or models) means that the legal profession must exist in a permanent state of innovation.

Third, legal doctrines and concepts need to be re-designed around technologies that encourage decentralization and “peer-to-peer” transactions. Legal professionals will be asked to deal with issues within a legal framework that doesn’t always offer clear or helpful answers. Building the capacity to better understand the opportunities and challenges of the rapidly changing digital world will enable them to continue to provide an effective service to their clients in the future.
