PhD student employees

PhD researchers at positions financed by the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology (direct funding) can:

  • make use of the libraries in Tilburg and Utrecht;
  •  make use of a workplace;
  • submit requests in their own department for the purchase of specific equipment. If it can be foreseen that the availability of certain equipment is essential to the research, the PhD student will indicate this in his/her research proposal. If the request cannot be honored, the supervisor will support the PhD student in finding alternatives;
  • submit a request in their own department for hiring people to carry out support activities, such as transcribing documents. If it can be foreseen that specific support will be needed, the PhD student will indicate this in his/her research proposal. If the request cannot be honored, the supervisor will support the PhD student in finding alternatives;
  •  with regard to rooms for experimental research, in the absence of alternatives (such as the availability of offices of fellow-researchers), appeal to the Faculty Office to book conference rooms;
  • submit to the Graduate School a motivated request for making funds available to a maximum of € 3000 for the following facilities for the duration of the PhD track:
    • books;
    • attending conferences, including related costs such as those for poster presentations;
    • taking (a) specific course(s);
    • other research related costs.

PhD researchers financed through research grants or contract research can:

  • in the estimate of the subsidy proposal include an amount for equipment to be purchased and extra support to be hired, if it can be foreseen that either or both are necessary. Before the proposal is submitted, the Faculty Board decides if matching is possible;
  • make use of the above-mentioned facilities, with the exception of the individual budget for PhD students.
​​​​​​​PhD student non-employees

PhD researcher non-employees (external PhD researchers) can:

  • make use of the library;
  • make use of a workplace by appointment through the School's secretariat.

Depending on the phase they are in, PhD researcher non-employees can submit to the Graduate School a motivated request for making funds available to a maximum € 500 for the following facilities for the duration of the PhD track:

  • an IBL account (please contact the Graduate School Office);
  • books;
  • attending conferences, including related costs such as those for poster presentations;
  • taking (a) specific course(s);
  • other research related costs.

All PhD students

PhD researchers can also submit applications for financial means to be made available from the departmental budget for activities issuing forth from their research that are important to the research activities of the department as a whole (e.g. societal valorization).

Reimbursement regulations

PhD researchers of the Graduate School for Theology who have obtained their doctorate at Tilburg University can ask for a reimbursement for the printing costs of their thesis to a maximum of € 1,500.

A written and signed request for the reimbursement of the printing costs can be submitted to:
