In my doctoral research I investigated the effect of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) on the lives of patients with cancer. In 2021, this resulted in a dissertation, which showed that cancer patients with CIPN generally have a worse health-related quality of life, including more anxiety and depressive symptoms, fatigue, and worse sleep quality. As a postdoctoral researcher I continue my research on CIPN among (colorectal) cancer patients, but also investigate other important topics such as the effect of different surgical procedures on patients’ quality of life. Also, as we do not only collect questionnaire data, but also data by means of blood samples, we will also focus on the role of cancer(treatment) on biological markers such as inflammatory markers and leukocyte telomere length, and their association with patient-reported outcomes.
