I am Joris Knoben and as of June 2022 I am a professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Tilburg School of Economics and Management. Innovation and entrepreneurship lie at the heart of sustainable competitive advantages for firms and the success of modern economies. Understanding what drives innovation and entrepreneurship is therefore of crucial importance for scholars, (future) entrepreneurs, managers, and policymakers alike. My goal is to contribute to this understanding. Specifically, the extreme degree of concentration of entrepreneurial and innovative activity in our economic landscape fascinates me. Why do organizations and entrepreneurs agglomerate so much? What can they do in those locations that they cannot do elsewhere? How does all of this influence their innovative and entrepreneurial success? These are the types of questions that underpin my research agenda. In a nutshell, I am intrigued by how an organization’s environment influences its strategy and performance.
