Kristel Doreleijers (1993) obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Dutch language and culture) and a Master of Arts (Dutch Studies and Linguistics) at Utrecht University. During her undergraduate studies she developed a profound interest in interdisciplinary language variation research. After completing her studies Kristel gained academic experience as a research assistant at the Meertens Institute (KNAW) in Amsterdam. In October 2019 she started with her own PhD project at the Department of Culture Studies. In this project Kristel investigates language variation and change in gender marking in Dutch and Dutch (Brabantish) dialects. The supervisors are prof. dr. Jos Swanenberg and prof. dr. Marjo van Koppen. The project received a funding from the NWO programme PhDs in the Humanities 2019. Kristel is also strongly committed to science communication to a general public. Among other things she developed the website www.profielwerkstuktaalkunde.nl.
