Bio

Randall Lesaffer (Brugge, 25 April 1968) studied law and history at the universities of Ghent and Leuven. From the latter university, he obtained his PhD in law in 1998. In 1999, he was appointed to the chair of legal history at Tilburg University. He is also part-time professor of International and European Legal History at the University of Leuven as well as visiting professor of International Law at Catolica Global School of Law, Lisbon. His scholarly work focuses on the history of international law since 1500. He is editor-in-chief of the book series Studies in the History of International Law (Brill/Nijhoff) and editor of the Journal of the History of International Law (Brill/Nijhoff) as well as the Global Law Series (Cambridge University Press). He is general editor of the Cambridge History of International Law (13 volumes planned).
